Las Vegas: a short story

John L. Smith's column from Sunday's R-J is an amusing synopsis of Vegas history.

It seems to me like the Vegas centennial should really be celebrated in 2011. After all, the city was incorporated in 1911; 1905 was just when the lots were auctioned off. I can't help but suspect that the centennial celebration has been bumped up because Oscar Mayor wants it to happen on his watch.
